Why does this sycamore, Platanus racemosa, have a steel cable running through it? Perhaps it was once strung up for some other purpose, but I recently happened to see a picture of a project where steel cable is used tether discarded christmas trees in a location where they provide ecological beneft, which makes me wonder if this fallen log was anchored here for a similar purpose.
