Chester Ray Abbott, 79 years of age, of West Science Hill, Kentucky, departed this life on Monday, August 17th, 2009 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Corbin, Kentucky. He was born in Science Hill, Kentucky on October 31st, 1929, a son of the late William "Bill" Abbott and Delphia Wilson Abbott. He was preceded in death by his parents and thirteen siblings. He was survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Marie Dick Abbott and one sister, Maxine Kemper of Florida. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, Ray was wounded in Korea and carried shrapnel in his body for the rest of his life. For many years Ray enjoyed his mules and beagles. He and Marie spent many hours with their friends on mule trail rides. He also worked in the Pulaski County School System as a bus driver, a truck driver, a maintenance man and in frozen foods and was a member of the West Science Hill Baptist Church. Lately he liked to spend time with his many friends at Hardee's and drive his relatives around country roads in Casey County, Kentucky. Visitations were held after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19th, 2009 at the Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, Kentucky. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20th, 2009 at the West Science Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Norman Harper and Bro. T.J. Godbey officiating.
