John Thomas Calder, son of William and Catherine Calder, was born on 22 March 1851 in Briary, Kentucky. John Thomas as he was called, worked primarily as lumber hauler in Casey County, Kentucky. He hauled lumber from Yosemite, in Casey County, to Hustonville, in Pulaski County. Minnie Alice, his daughter, said that he always wore a high brim hat while working his horses on the lumber hauls. He married Sarah Jane Young. One of his children, Ora Ethel, was born blind because of measles infections. She never married because of this. Another one of his children, Clarence Calder, suffered with heart trouble and lived in Waynetown, Indiana. Luther Pflemin married Mildred Etta who was a small built red headed lady. Sarah Jane has two children Eddy (3 years old) and William A. (1 year old) and she is listed as living with her parents Nelson and Carolina Young on the 1880 census of Buncombe in Casey County Kentucky. On the 1910 census, Flossie E. Calder , a grand-daughter, who is five years old, is listed as residing within their house. On the 1930, both Flossie E. and Olin L. who is a 15 years old grandson is living with the Calder family. Both John Thomas and Sarah Jane died in Casey County, Kentucky and they are buried in Willow Springs Methodist Church Cemetery in Casey County.

This photograph was taken at the Willow Springs Methodist Church Cemetery in Casey County, Kentucky. This is the gravestone of Thomas and Sarah Jane Calder. Their daughter Ora is buried beside them. Their great grandson Danny Gordon Mize Stone is visiting the gravesite during the year 2009.
