“During his childhood years Robert Lee Mize would stay at the house of Aunt Dora. Late in their lives, Dora and Estel had moved from Somerset, Kentucky to Payoli, Indiana which is near Louisville, Kentucky. Dora’s mother, Martha also moved to Payoli, Indiana to live with the Hall Family. Before her death, Dora had complained about having chest pains. One evening she asked Herschel, her son to take her to the hospital. Herschel would not take her to the hospital because of prior commitments to play an instrument at a church service. Dora took it upon herself to hitchhike to the residence of Eula (Lay) Mize and Rose Lay who were residing at Reno Street in Clarksville, Indiana. Upon her arrival at their residence, she suffered a massive heart attack and died shortly afterwards at a New Albany hospital.” (personal interview with Eula (Lay) Mize).
