Herbert Mize

(Photo on the left)Edna Oaks wife of Herbert Mize (photo on the right)The house of Herbert Mize family located on Eagle Creek in Rockcastle Co, Kentucky was photographed during 1990 and has since burned down to the foundation. This photo was given to Damon Mize and later it was used on the front cover of his book, "Borned into Hell."

These sketches are of the Oaks residence which was located on the Rockcastle River, 200 yards south of the Old Route 80 bridge. The tavern or saloon was located on the eastern side of the same bridge and it burned down around the year 1967.The foundation was present during 1990. The photo on the right is the broken tombstone of Herbert Mize located at the J.W. Mize cemetery alongside Eagle Creek. There are several grave markers in the cemetery and in addition there is a grave for a Civil War soldier.

This picture on the left was taken about the year 1941 in front of Herbert Mize’s home on Eagle Creek. Edna Oaks on the left and Herbert On the right. The photo on the right was taken during 1990. It is the remains of the Herbert Mize house.
