This is a video of a trip down Mize Road to Eagle Creek, located on Route 1249 between Billows (at the Rockcastle River Bridge on old Route 80) and Mount Vernon, Rockcastle County, Kentucky. This trip was with my father. We wanted to film the Eagle Creek Cemetery which Shelby Mize had taken me to show me. The Cecil Mize homestead, the former Herbert Mize homesite, and the James William homesite, along with the Isaac Mize homesite was on the itenary but after driving down to the gate access to this public road, the gate was locked. The first time that I visited the Eagle Creek Community was quite the adventure. The road was dirt and there was not bridge. So everybody got out of the VW Jetta and then waded across the creek. I slowly drove the car through the creek and made it safely to the other side. We drove down to the Rockcastle River and what beautiful scenery. Tall lonely pines, deep ravines, an old cemetery, and uninhabited homesteads. This is the only road into the valley and in earlier times, it was accessible only by horse or jeeps. On the way out, it started to rain and the clay road turned into a slick mud which was like driving on ice! LOL...What an adventure.... I'll call next time.......
